The Patchwork People: America s Religious Promise Comes of Age

As part of the Tanner-McMurrin Lecture Series, Westminster presents a lecture by Dr. Diana Eck entitled The Patchwork People: America s Religious Promise Comes of Age" on March 18, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. in the Bill and Vieve Gore School of Business Auditorium.
Dr. Eck will discuss how the United States is not now, nor has it ever been, a primarily Christian or Judaeo-Christian nation. As President Obama said in his inaugural address, We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus, and nonbelievers. We are shaped by every language and culture, drawn from every end of this earth." Given that, what are the challenges we Americans face as we take hold of our religious diversity? And how do we move from mere diversity to creative pluralism?
