If you are an outdoorsy kind of person (which I assume that you are being a member of this group and all), then you must be an ecofriendly kind of person as well. Here is a class for you - all about recycling. I have taken this class and it is very very good and is highly recommended. It is at night 6 - 9pm once a week. You will meet all kinds of people and learn a lot. Below is a copy of the letter Bailey sends at the beginning of each class. Visit their website for more info http://www.co.marion.or.us/pw/es Friend of Recycling: Thank you for your interest in the Master Recycler Program. We are a community education project sponsored by Marion County Public Works - Environmental Services. Our goal is to reach as many people as we can with information on how they can reduce waste, recycle, and compost. Classroom instruction is balanced with a hands-on orientation and great, knowledgeable speakers. As a participant you will receive more than thirty hours of comprehensive training in solid waste issues and opportunities. In return you will be asked to pay back this training through your choice of a variety of outreach activities. These activities can range from staffing a recycling information table at a local store or event, setting up or expanding a recycling program at your workplace, or organizing an educational workshop in your own neighborhood. The Program will have activities available, but you are also welcome to design and implement your own waste reduction/recycling outreach project. We encourage creativity and personal initiative. The eight evening training sessions will begin on Thursday, January 21, 2010 and will continue on Thursday evenings through March 11th. They will be held from 6:15pm until 9:00pm at the Marion County Public Works office, located at 5155 Silverton Rd. NE, Salem. The training also includes three Saturday field trips to local recycling and composting facilities, which begin at 8:30am and finish by 2:30 pm. The class schedule is still being finalized, but a tentative schedule is included below. It is important that you attend all of the classes and fieldtrips. If you anticipate missing more than one session, please wait to apply until your schedule will permit you to attend all of the classes. There is a lot of interest in the program, and space is limited. To ensure your spot, please fill out the application form (below) and return it to me as soon as possible. The application deadline is Friday, December 31. We will review applications and notify you about the class before it begins. The cost is $25.00, but please donÃÂ't send the registration fee until you have been notified that you have been accepted in the class. For those that can not commit to the 30 hours of volunteer service, the fee will be $75. If more than 30 applicants apply, we may give preference to those applicants that have committed to do the ÃÂ"pay backÃÂ" hours. Thanks for your enthusiasm and interest in reducing waste and saving natural resources! Please contact me if you have any questions. Sincerely, Bailey Payne, Waste Reduction Coordinator Tel.
