The founding members of Smirker (Scott, Jared, and Nic) have been playing music together for 5 years, during which they have developed a unique sound that combines elements of blues, psychedelic, and classic rock, with frequent improvisation and extended jam sessions. They have an extensive repertoire of cover songs and originals, and are constantly learning and writing new material. Recently, the talented and sexy Jay Swanigan of the Dirt Nap Band joined as the group's bass player, which has helped to further enhance and fill out the group's overall sound. Relic 45 is a new and upcoming group of young energetic blues based rockers. Their blues electric core mixed with acoustic interludes will reel you in and make you want to rock all night long. Lead by headman Jeremy Briggs unique and powerful voice, Relic 45 has just started to hit the rock scene in Sacramento. The background vocals and heavy bass of Ryan Tillema, lead guitar of Tyler Canaday and percussions of Travis Simas make this group an unstoppable juggernaut. With a mix of covers and originals, Relic 45 will have you singing along and asking when their first album will be cut. Come out October 7th to hear the new sound of Sacramento and enjoy Relic 45's blues bash
Pinning Relic 45 to a specific genre is no easy task. This brand new Sacramento band is keeping everyone guessing. With a solid foundation in heavy blues and rock, Relic 45 keeps the heads bobbin' and feet tappin' until the last song ends. Truly a band that must be experienced live to appreciate all there is to offer. Spending an evening with Relic 45 is never a disappointment!
Relic 45 is one of Sacramento's most exciting bands, an up-and- coming group of young rockers. Locking them into a specific genre is no easy task. Their influences are eclectic, ranging from classic
blues players like Elmore James and John Lee Hooker to rockers like Aerosmith and Zeppelin to soul singers like Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles to…to…well, you get the picture, we don't know what to
call it. What we do know is the tasty riffs and soulful harmonies will reel you in and make you want to rock all night long. As Ronnie Van Zant said best: "I don't care for fancy music if my feets can't shuffle
around." Relic 45 has carried that long-awaited creed to Sacramento and will keep the heads boppin' and feet tappin' until the last song ends. Lead by front man Jeremy Briggs' unique and powerful voice,
the band also includes guitarist Stephen Larsen, bassist Matt Harris, and drummer Mike Monroe. With a mix of covers and originals, Relic 45 will have you singing along and asking when they're cutting their
first album. Come out and hear the new sound of Sacramento. NPR loves Emma Hill, and so will you- if you appreciate a honeyed voice, lonesome pedal steel and catchy folksy Americana. Last fall, songwriter and folk singer Emma Hill caught national attention in the form of an NPR feature on her unorthodox jet tour of North America. Taking advantage of an "All You Can Jet" pass, Ms. Hill and bandmate Bryan Daste spent a month plane-hopping the continent, bringing her brand of country-tinged folk to venues throughout North America.
And now the 23-year old Alaskan native is back with a full band album called Meet Me at the Moon, released under the moniker Emma Hill and Her Gentlemen Callers. Recalling Whiskeytown and the Be Good Tanyas, Meet Me at the Moon offers up a host of indie folk songs and Americana odes. Old fans will be delighted with the new arrangements, which recall the best of Clumsy Seduction, but take it further with the strength of the full band sound. And the album will surely garner new fans with its inspired melodies, poignant harmonies, and remarkable lyrical insight. Emma Hill's music is intimate and confessional, recalling Jolie Holland, Kathleen Edwards, and other big-voiced, heart-on-the-sleeve songstresses. Fans of Red Molly and Easton Stagger Philips will delight in her catchy, but understated, sultry twang. Meet Me at the Moon is released less than half a year after her break-out folk album, Clumsy Seduction. But releasing two albums in such quick succession should not come as a surprise from a young woman who founded her own record label, Kuskokwim, and released two full-length albums when barely out of her teens. Emma Hill is certainly a young artist to watch. Meet Me at the Moon comes hot on the heels of a 6-week stint in Europe, where her previous album was very warmly received.
This 22 year old singer songwriter began crafting her personal flavor of Folk in Sleetmute, the small Alaskan village she grew up in. Emma quickly became a staple of the budding Alaskan music scene, bringing her rurally influenced stylings to Anchorage.
Her first album showcased her wide vocal range as well as her eclectic musical taste while staying in the realm of folk/Americana. Emma toured extensively to support the album throughout the west coast as well as a national tour, and reached 8 on the KRUA Anchorage album charts.
Now hailing from Portland, with the addition of her backing band, The Gentlemen Callers, Emma maintains her strong folk/Americana roots while telling beautiful stories and unbelievably catchy melodies. The band adds a delightful dynamic including sexy pedal steel licks and haunting harmonies. They've toured extensively in support of her second album, including a 6-week national tour in summer of 2009. Since then, "Clumsy Seduction" has charted on several indie radio stations, including hitting number 12 on Acoustic Pie Radio in early 2010. Emma Hill and Her Gentlemen Callers are currently working on her third release, expected out in early 2011.
"Portland songwriter Emma Hill's tender folk songs ache with emotion. If you're in the mood for roots music, you won't find a better show in the city."-Seattle Weekly
"All that living has just bolstered Hill's charming folk music, which is a little bit poppy, a little bit jazzy, a little bit twangy, and a whole lot of pretty tunes crafted by a precocious songwriter with a powerful voice."-The Bend Bulletin
"The noise level dropped by half and faces in the center of the room swung toward the troubadour like weather vanes hit by a sudden wind. Emma Hill's strong, smooth, pitch-perfect alto has a unique personal timbre that commands attention. Her tone, while flirty, possesses a sense of maturity unexpected in a 21-year-old, a blend of punky confidence and bluesy anguish with an undercurrent of pleading uncertainty."
-Mike Dunham of Alaska Daily News
"Hill has the lungs. She's occasionally stunned crowds into startled silence -- in a good way. Some compare her to Joni Mitchell or Joan Baez."-Alaska Daily News
