Description
The exhibit in the Central Library Lobby celebrates Sacramento as a primary artistic arm of the Chicano movement. The art collective Royal Chicano Air Force (RCAF), was founded in 1969 to express the goals of Chicano civil rights and the labor movement of the United Farm Workers. Sacrachicano showcases historical and current works by these major artists and by emerging artists who are carrying on their tradition. An important aspect of Sacrachicano is a traditional El Dia de los Muertos altar for Armando Cid and other deceased RCAF artists. The exhibit is in partnership with Galeria Posada and is curated by Gloria Burt and Juanishi Orosco. View the exhibit during library open hours through January 3, 2010.
