Hopheads member Fred Mundy is throwing a pizza/beer pairing at his restaurant, Extreme Pizza, in Sacramento. $25.00 per person, limited to 25 attendees. Let's show our support for a fellow Hophead and a local business at the same time! Call Extreme Pizza for reservations, 916-925-8859. If you haven't been to Extreme Pizza, the food is great, a great selection of beers, all hosted and served by a true beer afficionado, Fred Mundy. Here's the pizza/beer pairing menu...thoughtfully prepared, I might add... Pairing #1 Screaming Tomato Extreme sauce, mozzarella, sliced roma tomatoes with mozzarella and a touch of cheddar on top Mt. Shasta Lemurian Lager 35.2 IBU, 6% ABV. Pours a light yellowish gold color with small white head. Estery smell of yeast, banana, spice, and malty yeasty flavor, with crisp bitter, grassy hops. Light crisp feel, bitter sweet finish. Pairing #2 Yard Sale Extreme sauce, mozzarella, salami, pepperoni, Italian sausage, sliced mushrooms, green bell peppers, red onions, olives, diced tomatoes with mozzarella and a touch of cheddar on top Firestone Walker Double Barrel Ale 32 IBU. 5% ABV. Rich amber color with a thin head. Good carbonation. Aroma of sweet malts with some earthy, floral hops. Caramel-like sweet flavor combined with smooth finish and a nice bitter ending. Pairing #3 Poultry Gist High fat whole milk Mozzarella, grilled chicken, white sauce, broccoli, red onions, fresh sage, light gorgonzola cheese with swiss and fontina and cheese on top Green Flash West Coast IPA 95 IBU, 7.3% ABV. Golden, /light amber color with a thin head. Notes of coarse piney hops, dark citrus, earthy, abrasive hop resins. Full bodied, hop resins with lively carbonation. Pairing #4 Railroad Grade Extreme sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni, Italian sausage, sliced red onions, sliced mushrooms, with mozzarella and a touch of cheddar on top Humbolt Brewing Hemp Ale. 32 IBU, 5.7% ABV. Pours a deep amber color with a tan head. Aroma of caramel and grain. Taste is slightly lightly smoky, chewy with some caramel. Modest carbonation Pairing #5 Boarder Extreme BBQ sauce, high fat whole milk mozzarella, BBQ shredded pork and BBQ chicken chunks, lashings of sliced red onions topped with cheddar cheese Anchor Porter. Unknown IBU, 5.6% ABV. Pours a deep brown color with tanned head and fair lacing. Aroma of dark fruit, juicy malt with a touch of nuts and yeast. Medium body with sweet malt, dark fruit and espresso coffee fill the mouth. Nice long dry finish. Pairing #6 Fresh Baked Chocolate Chip cookie Stone Brewing Smoked Porter. 53 IBU, 5.9% ABV. Pours pitch black with a tan creamy head and good lacing. Roasted malt and a slight chocolate aroma. Coffee, bitter chocolate, and smoked malt flavor with a lingering aftertaste. Full bodied, easy to drink porter
