Description
http://photos2.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/9/6/5/9/event_2198489.jpeg Yellow Mountain Trail Highlands, NC Difficulty Rating: Moderate to Strenuous Hike approx 10 miles Carpool Time/Place: 7:00am Atlanta Bread Company, near intersection of Woodstock and Crossville, across the street from Taco Mac. Meeting Time/Place: 10:30 am Dirt parking area across the street (Buck Creek Road) from the trail head. *DUE TO MINIMAL PARKING SPACE, YOU CANNOT MEET US AT TRAIL HEAD. http://photos1.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/9/6/6/a/event_2198506.jpeg Itinerary: Note: My hikes are leisure speed at 1.5 to 2 miles an hour....with plenty of breaks for water and snacks....if you are fast hiker and wants to hike fast, this may not be the hike for you. Yellow Mountain is one of the tallest mountain in Highlands, North Carolina at 5,127 feet (Brasstown Bald in GA is 4,788). It was recognized as National Historic Lookout in 1992. On the top of the mountain, Fire Tower built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1934 is standing. Decomissioned in 1969, this tower will give you an amazing 360 degree view of the surrounding area. Being part of the Forrest Service, the trail is not well marked and maintained, but the view from the top of the mountain is well worth the hike. (it was quite breath taking) http://photos1.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/9/6/8/3/event_2198531.jpeg Costs (How to pay...): Please share gas fare with your driver ($7-8) Required Items: Plenty of sports drink or water (I took 4 liters last time and it was not enough for me) snacks and big lunch. If you have a hiking shoes its better. Trekking pole (you'll be so glad you have the pole) if you have it, if not you can find a walking stick on the trail. Other business: Are Dogs Permitted? NO http://photos3.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/9/6/8/2/event_2198530.jpeg
