Green Power Hour Introduces New Waste Minimization Best Practices

Green Power Hour is part of the Chamber University. These one-hour interactive seminars are designed for today’s businessmen and women who are interested in what they can do to be more sustainable at work and at home. The event is free, but reservations are required.

On June 26, the Rogers-Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce and Benton County Solid Waste District will present a new waste minimization Green Power Hour program that will demonstrate how to: Save money by reducing the amount of waste generated Create a paradigm shift among employees from disposing
of “waste” to implementing resource recovery methods

Jim Twiggs is the leader of the Green Team for McKee Foods in Gentry. He has been with the company since 1998. McKee Foods is best known for producing Little Debbie snack cakes. Beginning in 2007, the twelve-member Gentry Green Team made a commitment to reduce landfill waste by implementing sustainable practices at their plant. By August 2009 the Gentry plant had reduced waste going into the landfill by 70 percent. In November 2011, the Gentry plant announced they had achieved zero landfill waste, becoming one of the first companies in Benton County to do so.

Learn how your business can become more sustainable and reduce their landfill waste by attending this free program. Green Power Hour is open to all members, but reservations are required. Participants are encouraged to bring a brown bag lunch.
