This will be our first gathering and it will be egg-stra-ordinary. This meeting we will: 1. Meet each other and gather the topics folks are most interested in discussing at meetings. 2. Introduce the 4-H program and the possible activities for both the kids and adults. The 4-H program involves raising and keeping poultry from peeps to mature birds. This includes brooding baby chicks and getting birds ready for the 4-H county fair and national competitions. 3. Get nominations for club officers: President, Treasurer and Secretary (keeper of the flame). 4. Explore how to network with each other. In future meetings we will have interactive presentations and guest speakers that will cover a wide variety of poultry/gardening/compost/bio-mass recycling topics. We will probably continually discuss, explore and experiment with integrating poultry in with gardens and local food supply systems. Creating compost using local biomass (kitchen, yard and garden residues) and using that compost to enrich garden soil to grow healthy foods will probably be a frequently discussed about subject. Urban homestead and garden planning, planting, harvesting and preparing food will be a frequent discussion focus. We discuss crops that can be grown for both people and poultry. We also talk about our local green movement and how it can be made even greener and more effective. We meet the second Tuesday of every month. 7pm at the Rockbridge County Administration Office, 150 Main Street, Lexington, VA 24450 - in the Extension's conference Room - 2nd floor. If you get lost, call Pat's Cel (540) 460-6459.
