Fall LITERACY 5000 - Volunteer to help at the 5K/1K event - sponsored by the Inland Empire Dyslexia Branch

You are invited to come and volunteer at the Fall Literacy 5000 on October 13th, 2012

There will be volunteer opportunities in the following areas.  Except where indicated, you will be able to also race if desired.  You will receive a certificate for your community service. We are a 501(c)3 organization devoted to promoting literacy awareness.

  • Sell raffle tickets
  • Dash set-up - helium balloons, water stations, parking, race monitors
  • Lead Kids 1K race
  • Registration Area
  • Race Timing Area (you will not be able to race if you volunteer here)

At the same time, you are invited to run or walk in Inland Empire's Literacy 5000 - as we go through beautiful Fairmount Park in Downtown Riverside.

The LITERACY 5000  is part of a national tradition sponsored by the International Dyslexia Association, The Dyslexia Dash, and aims to promote recognition of dyslexia and the many efficient and effective strategies for helping with literacy issues. This event is the 4th 5K/1K race sponsored by the Inland Empire Branch. Come and celebrate this tradition with us!! Awards and medals will be presented.

We will be running/walking within beautiful Fairmont Park. This Olmsted-designed park (designed by the same person who designed Central Park and Prospect Park in New York City) features rose gardens, several lakes, a bandshell, and a beautiful restored historic boathouse. Our 5K Dash is to promote awareness of dyslexia and other learning difficulties and to raise funds to aid on-going programs in four major areas: information, referrals, conferences, workshops. Literacy issues (poor reading and writing skills) are a national public health concern because of the impact they have on social skills, employment, and especially self-esteem.
