SATURDAY NOVEMBER 14 TRAFFIC IMPACTS ON THE 2ND DISTRICT The SunTrust Richmond Marathon will occur on Saturday November 14 and will have significant impact on traffic and movement throughout the 2nd District. The three race distances that make up this event will have over 15,000 participants, 30-40,000 spectators, and bring over 30,000 visitors to the city. Total economic impact to the region is estimated at over $9 million. While the race is an economic boom to the region, all of this comes with a cost of some inconvenience to residents and businesses. There will be numerous street closures and traffic pattern changes throughout the city. All race distances will start downtown in the vicinity of 6th and Broad St. and will finish at 9th and Cary. Start times for the races are as follows: 7:00AM HCA Virginia 8K
7:30AM McDonalds Half Marathon
8:00AM SunTrust Richmond Marathon A number of street closures are unique to the 2nd District. Residents and businesses are advised to pre-plan travel and allow adequate time particularly on the morning of the race. Significant closures are as follows: Broad Street (both eastbound and westbound) between 4th Street and N. Boulevard will be closed from 6 to 9am. Eastbound traffic will be detoured north on Sheppard Street, east on Marshall Street, north on the Boulevard, east on Leigh Street, south on 10th Street, east on Marshall Street, south on 12th Street back to Broad Street.
Northbound Boulevard traffic will be restricted from Monument Avenue to Hermitage Road beginning at 7AM to 10AM. Only one lane Northbound will be available from 10AM to 1:30PM. Traffic on Northbound Hermitage Road from Brookland Parkway to Bellvue Avenue will also be restricted from 7AM to 10AM. Only one lane will be available Northbound from 10AM to 2PM.
Brookland Parkway will be closed to traffic from Hermitage Road to Loxley Rd from 7AM to 9AM.
Grace Street will be closed between Boulevard and Allen Ave. from 6 to 9am for the HCA 8K.
Lombardy Street between Brook Rd. and Monument Ave will be closed from 7am to 3pm
There will also be numerous and frequent lane closures along the Marathon, Half Marathon & 8k routes, including closures on: Broad Street, North Boulevard, Monument Avenue, Grove Avenue, Maple Avenue, Cary Street Road, River Road, Scottview Drive, Forest Hill Avenue, Semmes Avenue, the Lee Bridge, Belvidere Street, West Main Street, Hermitage Road, Fauqier Avenue, Brook Road. Motorists are advised to use extreme caution when entering these roadways or making turns across the runners' paths along these roadways Additional information on course routes and race logistics can be found at: www.richmondmarathon.com
