Remember when every downtown had a central gathering place, a plaza, or a town square? Those spaces provided a comfortable place for people to gather, meet, and be part of a real community. Well construction of Downtown Redwood City?s very own town square is now complete!! The south annex of the Courthouse has been removed, and the portico and faç¡¤e of the historic 1910 Courthouse has been restored. The plaza is now open. Come and visit and see the finest public space in the Bay Area! Positioned between the restored 1910 San Mateo County Courthouse and historic Fox Theatre, the Courthouse Square introduces a dramatic public space into the heart of downtown. Two semi enclosed pavilions with cafes flank a decoratively paved plaza space that frames the views between the two historic structures. A series of ornamental fountain bowls run along the pavilion seating areas, cascading into two basins at the main plaza level.
