The current focus of the Mateel is as a community center, a venue not only for the many local non-profits who use the building for fund-raising events, but also as a meeting place and conference hall for environmental focus groups and local government agencies. In addition, the Mateel offers an annual calendar of events that includes Missoula Children’s Theatre, the Mateel Youth Arts Project, summer and winter youth trips, the ever popular Summer Arts & Music Festival, Winter Arts Faire, fine arts shows, and an annual season of events that strives to showcase diverse artistic media such as dance, theatre, comedy, lecturers, and smaller scale musical events that wouldn’t otherwise happen at the Mateel. The Mateel Community Center was recently named a “California exemplary arts organization” by the California Arts Council, has received accolades from the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors for its contribution to local arts and economy, is used by over 250 organizations and businesses, attracts more than 45,000 people annually, and continues to beat as the heart of our diverse and ever changing community!
