About the Conference

This conference was inspired by a desire to honor our military veterans, address their need for clinical services, and to understand the depth of the wounds of war in both military personnel and their families.  Our profession has a unique opportunity to promote understanding and acceptance of those who have been physically and emotionally impacted by war and to find clinical approaches to address the issues that separation, military action, and re-entry of  military personnel can cause within the family.  Since WWII, the Korean war, and Vietnam, we have become increasingly aware of the effects of PTSD and today as we encounter the young men and women returning from militarized zones, we clinicians hope to increase our compassion and hone our skills to support all those who are impacted by war.  These community presenters have themselves been impacted either personally or as a family member and work on a daily basis with veterans and their families to support both understanding and healing.

Conference Objectives

To increase awareness of the explicit and subtle effects of war on veterans and their families.

To develop clinical strategies to identify and support the strengths of these families.

To learn treatment methodologies for Posttraumatic Stress Syndrome, particular to military experience.

To identify community resources for education, familial support, and treatment of veterans.
