New Year's Day Hike In Umstead State Park

We will hike the Sycamore Trail and optionally the loop section of the Company Mill Trail. The hike will be done at a moderate pace ... approx. 2.75 miles per hour with a few short stops along the way plus a snack break near the Crabtree Creek bridge for those who hike the Company Mill Trail loop. The Sycamore Trail is 7.2 miles and will take approx. 3 hours to complete. The combined distance for the Sycamore Trail and Company Mill Loop is approx 11.2 miles and take around 4 1/2 hours to complete. Please indicate on your RSVP if interested in hiking the optional Company Mill Loop. Meet at the far end of the last parking lot (second parking lot after the visitor's center) on the Crabtree Creek (Glenwood Ave.- Rt. 70) entrance side of the park. Reference the Umstead State Park Brochure for park information and trail maps. A contract number will be sent to members who RSVP. Remember to bring something to drink and some snacks for the trail. Restrooms are located near the meetup point and also at the visitor's center. Note: Please plan to contribute one dollar ($1.00) for this event to offset the organizer's membership fee to Meetup. One contribution per member per month.
