CHRISTMAS IN THE PARK
Poway, CA – The City of Poway and the Old Poway Park Action Committee invite you to step back in time and enjoy a holiday celebration, turn-of-the-century style. The annual Christmas in the Park will be held on Saturday, December 12, from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Old Poway Park, 14134 Midland Road. This event is free and suitable for all ages.
Everyone is encouraged to bring an ornament to decorate the community Christmas tree between 4:30 and 5:15 p.m. and it will be officially lit at 5:15 p.m. Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive aboard the steam train at 5:30 p.m., escorted by the Park’s western gunfighters.
The event will include various food items and sweet treats for sale, ornament making for children, a model railroad display by the Poway Station Model Railroad Club, steam train rides for a nominal fee by the Poway-Midland Railroad Volunteers, a holiday craft boutique by the Poway Arts and Crafts Guild, and pictures with Santa in his toy soldier village. Theatre in the Park will be performing holiday skits, students in Broadway Babies and Vocal Motion will be caroling, and the Heritage Dancers will be square dancing. There will also be a full line-up of live holiday musical entertainment in the gazebo, including professional carolers, a brass band, and a barbershop quartet.
Visit the Nelson House where you can see antique furnishings and artifacts, surrounded by holiday decorations. From December 1 to December 13, write a letter to Santa and drop it off in Santa’s mailbox on the Nelson House porch, and wait for Santa’s reply! The Heritage Museum will also be open and decorated for the holiday season. While looking around in the museum, you can enjoy complimentary hot cider.
