Description
An Alzheimerâs and Dementia loved ones family caregiver's support group will meet at St Andrew Lutheran Church on High Street in Portsmouth on the 2nd Tuesday of each month beginning Tuesday January 26th from 7 to 8:30 PM. Care givers can be spouses, children, other significant family members and friends. This DVD and group is not only for St. Andrew members, but for the community as well. If you know of anyone who is a caregiver, please feel free to invite them to join our group
We are developing a support group to provide educational information to help family caregivers for Alzheimerâs and Dementia loved ones. The Savvy Caregiver program was originally developed by a team of researchers at the University of Minnesotaâs Department of Family Practice and Community Health in Minneapolis, MN. The program is designed to train family and professional caregivers in the basic knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to mediate the challenges of caring for a family member with Alzheimerâs disease and to be an effective caregiver. It was further shown in research to reduce caregiver distress. It is an evidence-based dementia care training program, and since 2002, it has been designated as one of the approved dementia training programs of the Alzheimerâs Disease Demonstration Grants to States (ADDGS) program, which is funded through the U.S. Administration on Aging. Further information on the Program is available at http://www.memorylossdvd.com/.
We are located on High Street across from the Portsmouth YMCA. Our Parking area is accessed off of Sterling Point.
