Event details: Tigard Library Hosts Holocaust Remembrance
Description
On Tuesday, November 17 at 7 p.m. the Tigard Library will host Peter Wigmore, who will describe his mother’s experiences in Auschwitz, where she was subject to the brutal experiments of Dr. Josef Mengele. The library is presenting the program in observance of the 71st anniversary of Kristallnacht, which occurred on November 9 and 10, 1938.
Kristallnacht, or the Night of Broken Glass, was a coordinated assault by Nazi forces on German and Austrian Jewish citizens. As a result, 30,000 people were sent to concentration camps. Many historians consider Kristallnacht as the first clear portent of the future Holocaust.
The program will be held in the Community Room. For more information, please call the Library at 503-684-6537 or visit the Library’s Web page at http://www.tigard-or.gov/library and click on Adult Programs.
