PDX Vox Contemporary A Cappella Singing Groups Coming This Fall (Friday Group with Marie Schumacher)

PDX Vox is a singing program for busy people who have a passion for pop music and are looking for a fun, low-pressure way to improve their singing in a friendly, supportive environment. PDX Vox is a cross between a chorus and a "voice band," where pop songs are performed with voices only, and many of the voices sing the parts of instruments. There are no voice auditions for PDX Vox. Any previous singing experience qualifies you to join, so long as you have an appreciation for a variety of music. Through the teaching of innovative and catchy arrangements of pop songs, director Marie Schumacher works with the singing groups on vocal blending, solid singing technique, music theory, and performance tips. As a participant of PDX Vox, you will improve your singing, learn a bit about the history of a cappella music, and have a great time harmonizing with other music lovers. There is a fall session and a spring session of PDX Vox, and each session generally runs for 12-15 consecutive weeks. All rehearsals are 2 hours in length. There are several PDX Vox singing groups that meet at different times during the week, with a maximum number of 18 singers in each group. Five singing groups will run for 13 weeks, beginning in early September. 1. Monday evening group: Sept. 14th - Dec. 7th, 7:00 - 9:00. (13 consecutive weeks) 2. Wednesday early evening group: Sept. 9th - Dec. 9th, 6:30 - 8:30. (No class on Nov. 25th) 3. Wednesday late evening group: Sept. 9th - Dec. 9th, 7:30 - 9:30. (No class on Nov. 25th) 4. Thursday morning group: Sept. 10th - Dec. 10th, 10:00 am - noon. (No class on Nov. 26th) 5. Friday morning group: Sept. 11th - Dec. 11th, 10:00 am - noon. (No class on Nov. 27th) Please note that the two Wednesday evening groups overlap for one hour for a combined rehearsal. Singing Retreat and Rehearsal for All Groups: Saturday, Sept. 12th, 9:30 - 2:00. All singers are expected to attend. The costs of this event are included in the class tuition.
