REBIRTH BRASS BAND
7 p.m. doors, 8 p.m. show | $16 advance, $18 day of show | 21 and Over
Celebrating their 25th anniversary this year, the Rebirth Brass Band has come a long way from playing on the streets in the French Quarter to playing theaters and festivals all over the world. Simply put, this band is an institution. They have toured Europe, Asia and Africa and have played with The Grateful Dead among others.
Formed in 1983, the band was discovered at a local jazz festival and has since produced 14 albums, culminating with their latest entitled 25. Rebirth is committed to upholding the tradition of brass bands while at the same time incorporating modern jazz, funk, and soul into their show. Their signature brand of heavy funk has placed them among the world's top brass bands and they are the hands-down favorite among the younger generation.
The 9-member entourage boasts of tuba, bass drum, two trumpets, two trombones, two saxophones, and snare drum. In reference to the sometimes-stringent competition amongst brass bands, Offbeat magazine remarked, "…it's clear that Rebirth is the band to beat."
