O’Sullivan, William Henry Jackson, Eadweard Muybridge, Clarence H. White, Alfred Stieglitz, Edward Steichen, Paul Strand, Edward Weston, Imogen Cunningham, Margaret Bourke-White, James VanDerZee, Dorothea Lange, Walker Evans, Robert Frank, and Aaron Siskind, are featured, and works encompass a variety of subject matter including portraiture, the Western landscape, Pictorialism, documentary photography, and abstraction.

This exhibition is organized by the Cleveland Museum of Art. This exhibition is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts.
