Description
Constitution Study Lessons are held the third Friday of each month at St. Luke Church 305 Center Avenue West View, PA 15229 November Lessons from the 5000 YEAR LEAP: Lesson 14: 13th Principle: Protection Against Human Frailty Lesson 15: 14th Principle: Property Rights Essential to Liberty Lesson 16: 15th Principle Free Market Economics What most of us have learned about the Pilgrims and the Indians who were at the first Thanksgiving at Plymouth Plantation is only part of the truth. When you build a lesson on only half of the information, then you are not teaching the whole truth. So where do you start to find out more about the holiday and our modern stories about how it began? What we must do is learn our history and learn from it. For example, in his October 3, 1789 Thanksgiving Proclamation, George Washington, the father of our country, said “It is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor.” Millions of Americans have no idea that the form of government our founders bequeathed us was not a democracy but a Constitutional â€Â" Representative -- A lot more dangerous â€Â" is the obvious fact that most of those running the three branches of our national government â€Â" both Democrats and Republicans â€Â" do not care that our founders gave us a Constitutional â€Â" Representative â€Â" Republic. Ideas and principles which we fail to advocate in the political arena are lost to history. The principle of liberty under law must not suffer that fate. It must be preserved, protected and defended. George Washington said that it is up to us to “raise a standard to which the wise and honest may repair, recognizing that the event is in the hands of God.” And John Quincy Adams wrote, “Duty is ours, consequences are God’s.”
