Thirteen years ago, after gaining inspiration from a trip to Cape Cod, Marty Keenan and Albert Taxin, the original owner of Bookbinder's, returned to Philadelphia and decided to bring to the area a little New England charm. Marty Keenan will always be remembered, missed and loved at Rock Lobster.

At age 70, Keenan came out of retirement to begin his second career as a restaurant entrepreneur. He was previously the owner of the most successful Mercedes Dealership in the Delaware Valley, selling the luxury vehicles to the likes of Muhammad Ali, Bette Davis, and Jackie Gleason. Prior to owning the dealership, Keenan was once an auctioneer and worked as a seafood cook, which is perhaps where he gets some inspiration for his restaurant. A colorful character, Keenan used to work 60 hours a week visiting tables regularly, upholding the mentality of Rock Lobster which is to make every guest feel important, and at home. This tradition is now carried on by his lovely wife Joanne Keenan who is keeping his vision and spirit of Rock Lobster alive!

A former "Best of Philly" winner, Rock Lobster is known by locals and tourists alike who enjoy delicious seafood, a variety of great music, and a wonderful crowd of people. The appeal of Rock Lobster can partially be attributed to the atmosphere of New England. Charming, quaint, and unpretentious, Rock Lobster succeeds because it exists above the realm of trend. As the management states, "we are innovative within the box." They offer a vast menu of classic seafood for both lunch and dinner. Some items may change, but the traditional staples remain. Guests receive what they expect from a seafood house, and a lot more at Rock Lobster. The changes made have been to make the Rock Lobster experience more convenient to the wide range of customers they receive. For the first time at Rock Lobster, we will have a new deck bar and lounge. The perfect atmosphere for special occasions and private parties.

Live entertainment at Rock Lobster changes nightly and ranges from salsa night on Sundays complete with lessons for the beginners, to Jazz bands and DJ's. Rock Lobster offers a classic style and flavor that works. They truly have a menu for success.
