'hopeful and weary at the same time' how beautiful a thought with this on my mind..... fellow homewood, alabama friend, nadia kersh, has been missing since november 3rd. she left behind her 1 year old son. we are still hoping to find her, but many things tell us she is gone. at this point it's a criminal investigation... i am organizing a 'bottle tree' event for her son on january 18th, a sunday. i talked with band mate alex and i'm hopeful that 'wild sweet orange' will help out and play to gather funds for the trust fund nadia's friends have started for her son christopher. the faithful and uplifting lyrics and ideas that they convey would be perfect for our event. not to mention they have a connection to nadia. i hope i will see them play at bottle tree for nadia and christopher on january 18th, and make our cause less reason to be uneasy.....

Wild Sweet Orange’s Canvasback Music debut, WE HAVE CAUSE TO BE UNEASY, out July 29, is a work of exquisite power, its songs propelled by edgy emotion and a cathartic yearning for connection. Tracks such as “Ten Dead Dogs” and “Sour Milk” find the Birmingham, Alabama-based rock outfit honing an intimate and individualistic sound that veers unrestrained from aching intimacy to a turbulent, seething intensity. For singer and songwriter Preston Lovinggood, the album’s provocative title serves as both an ideal statement of intent as well as a strong assertion of identity.

“It’s being honest about who we are and where we’ve come from,” Lovinggood explains. “It’s hopeful and weary at the same time,” he adds. “To be aware of the situation, to understand there is a cause, is a healthy place to be.”

Recorded over a span of two years, from the band’s first serious sessions in Birmingham with engineer Lynn Bridges to its more recent work in Austin alongside producer Mike McCarthy (Spoon, And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, Patty Griffin), WE HAVE CAUSE TO BE UNEASY stands as a remarkably truthful debut album, the unveiling of a band and its efforts since the start.

Wild Sweet Orange signed to Canvasback Music in late 2007, but self-released THE WHALE EP on their own label, Nervous Blood. Though Wild Sweet Orange has spent much of the past year on the road, touring with the likes of Counting Crows and the Whigs, the ‘burbs continue to inspire and provoke, offering Lovinggood endless subject matter and emotional fuel for his lyrical fire.

The road has refined Wild Sweet Orange’s sound and vision, igniting powerful new connections, both between the performers and their audience, as well as among the band itself. With the years-in-the-making WE HAVE CAUSE TO BE UNEASY finally ready to reach the people, Lovinggood can’t help but look back with pride on how just far he and the band have traveled.

“It’s like we’ve been in the belly of the whale for the past three or four years and now we’ve finally been spit out,” Lovinggood says. “We’re taking all of our experiences and bringing them onstage every night. We’ve put all of ourselves into this record. We’ve given it our all and I think it’s a great picture of our life.”
