Bio
Bassist Corey Eves would leave the band in late 2005, just before recording commenced on their debut album. Chris Griffin replaced Corey and after supporting Nevermore on their Australian tour in late 2006, they released their debut album "The Last Horizon" which contains 7 tracks and 50 minutes of progressive metal with a high degree of originality, musicianship and songwriting sensiblility. The album has recieved great reviews from all over the world:
From Metalreviews.com(90/100 and album of the month) ... it is definitely safe to say that I expect this album to lead this band out of their native land and onto the international stage. With a debut combining sick technical chops, and memorable songwriting, you are being presented with a success story in the making.
From Overhookmusic.com(4.5/5) ... I hear something glorious coming from Australia. Sure, they have had few really good progressive bands also before, Eyefear and Vanishing Point to mention as examples, but Transcending Mortality adds their name to that growing list of phenomena from down under with their self-financed debut album.
From Pyromusic.net (9.3/10) ...There's something significantly unique about the 7 tracks 'The Last Horizon' contains. Something I haven't heard in years and a character impossible to intentionally replicate. With fire in their eyes, plentiful ability and torrential zeal, the Sydney quintet known as Transcending Mortality have delivered what is easily one of the most enjoyable Aussie metal debuts I've heard in a decade. Not only is the album great when compared to local competition, it is at the apogee of world Prog Metal. Transcending Mortality have outdone just about every one of their peers, influences and idols.
In early 2007 bassist Chris Griffin left the band and original bassist Corey rejoined the band temporarily until a permanent replacement could be found. As well as playing their own headlining shows around Australia promoting The Last Horizon, in May 2007 TM supported Evergrey on their Australian tour. A permanent bassist was found after several auditions and Nathaniel Smith joined TM in June 2007. Guitarist and co-founding member Jonathan Talan left TM in late 2007 and the band decided to stay as a four piece. Transcending Mortality are currently working on an EP which is set for release in the next few months.
