Teddy started his stand up career in 1988. In the early years, Teddy won a number of stand up comedy competitions including the Arsenio Hall competition and Funniest Man in DC. He then appeared on Showtime at the Apollo in 1990 as a professional stand-up comic. It was then he knew he had the gift to command an audience as he received that elusive standing ovation in the building of which legends are made. After the Apollo, Teddy did a series of shows with the late, great Robin Harris, i.e. performing at the Comedy Act theatre, the hottest comedy club in LA. After Def Comedy Jam, Teddy began touring and performing with some of the hottest comics of today such as Bernie Mac, DL Hughley, Steve Harvey, Cheryl Underwood, Arnez J, Earthquake, Eddie Griffin and Adele Givens. Hes one of only a few comics whose shows were opened by all of the abovely mentioned comedians. Teddys also performed with some great musical acts such as Freddy Jackson, The Whispers, The Isley Brothers, Phyllis Hyman, Bell Bev Devoe, R. Kelly and many more. Teddy Carpenter did various projects including: six pilots, hosting his own TV show called In The Dark with Teddy Carpenter. From the early 90s to 1995 Teddy toured and performed regularly at different venues across the country seating between 2,000 and 5,000 people.
