Though they're relative newcomers to the overcrowded indie scene, the members of Ra Ra Riot are making names for themselves with extreme baroque pop performances, both on tour dates and two acclaimed albums. The extremity comes from the use of synthesizers with 60s pop and classical music, creating a style that, despite seeming dissonant, is actually quite fun (think Bach dance music). With the success of their latest album, The Orchard, Ra Ra Riot is in the midst of dozens of 2011 tour dates that showcase the group's acclaimed and appreciated energy that accompany all their live performances.
Ra Ra Riot was formed in 2006 by six students at Syracuse University in New York. They began playing around campus and, within a year, were already opening tour dates for the likes of Bow Wow Wow and Art Brut, as well as performing solo around the world. A year later, they were performing acclaimed sets at festivals like SXSW, despite the tragedy they experienced after the death of original drummer John Ryan Pike. A year after that, Ra Ra Riot released their debut album, The Rhumb Line, which made a huge splash in the world of mainstream music and featured their biggest hit up to that point, "Dying Is Fine." While their previous effort brought them into the public eye, it would be The Orchard that would keep them there. The album received great reviews and featured the hit song "Boy", which was made even more popular thanks to help from iTunes and the song's inclusion in a number of TV shows.
As The Orchard reaches more and more listeners, Ra Ra Riot's popularity grows and grows on numerous 2011 tour dates. Various shows will also feature Delicate Steve, Guster, or Dinosaur Bones, and the tour will conclude on November 21, so buy your tickets on Eventful soon!
