Mikey Beats

Mikey Beats is a second generation San Diego native. Raised between the beautiful hills of Bay Park and the surf culture driven town of Pacific Beach, Mikey Quickly found his niche in music and continues down that path to this day. His musical journey started at San Diego’s legendary all age venue Soma, where when Beats was 16 the owner Len Paul helped him stay out of trouble by giving him a job and insisting that he played music. Len decided to teach him everything he needed to know about music bands and the constantly evolving music industry. While working at Soma, Beats was introduced to local bands such as Sprung Monkey, Blink 182 and Unwritten law and watched them closely as they elevated their careers to national stardom.

With this wealth of music scene knowledge, Beats bought his first bass guitar in 1995 and joined a local band which played the local venue circuit for seven years. When Beats and his band decided to part ways the next logical progression for this natural performer was to turn to turntables. With his larger than life stage presence and vast knowledge of music he exploded on to San Diego’s club scene. Beats with his diverse musical background brings an eclectic array of music to the tables. At any given venue any given day Beats can please any given crowd. Loving where he grew up he still lives in Pacific Beach and enjoys all the amenities this wonderful community has to offer. He loves spinning the beach scene as well which in turn gives him the opportunity to play different genres such as what he likes to call “Urban Reggae”, which would include bands such as Sublime, Pepper and SD local band Slightly Stoopid. He also likes to play his own style of music he simply coins as “The Beach Style” which incorporates bands such as Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, and Long Beach Dub All-stars. Beats knows no musical boundaries therefore his live shows and mix tapes are all the more entertaining.
