Once upon a time, Joey wrote a song. He was in college, but regularly found himself forgoing his personal and educational commitments because he would "lose track of time" while playing music. He wrote more and more songs and was convinced by Wayne at Floor 7 music not to go to graduate school in neuroscience, but instead to make an album of original songs and to start a music group. So, they made the album titled Good Enough. It took 5 months in Berkeley, and an indescribable amout of heart and innocence went into the album, which has been described as a "folk opera" telling the relatable story of a tumultous young relationship. After the release of Good Enough, Joey moved back to Los Angeles to play shows and promote the album. He soon met and started writing and playing with the FolkRockGuitarCountryBluegrass afficionado known as Yohei Shikano, and their lives have not been the same since. They have played all around California gaining momentum and writing all along. The addition of Dean Vivirito on the Wurlitzer has propelled the Joey Ryan Band to new sonic heights. New songs from a forthcoming album have led to recent successes for Joey, including having songs featured in television (Veroninca Mars), an award-winning feature film ("Bella", winner People's Choice Award, Toronto Internatioinal Film Festival), and a major television ad campaign (Visa). The band continues to play around LA and the entire West Coast region and has built a solid fan base in San Diego, LA, and the Bay Area. Their live show is known for the improvised arrangements that make each performance unique, and also for the low volume both from the stage and from the audience who are careful not to miss a note.
