Dear Ross: First, let me introduce myself. My name is Oscar Reyes Matute, I live in Venezuela, and till three years ago, I had a tenure as researcher and professor on Political Philosophy at Andres Bello Catholic University in Caracas. As you may know, Venezuela is living a polemical political process since the last 14 years, and we are facing –in our own scale- all the struggles you point in your movie onto the globalization and capitalism, all the pains of the post Cold War economical war. As a part of my agenda, I was granted on 2003 at NYU, thanks to the Fulbright Program, during a semester to attend an intense program onto American Studies. After that, as a Fulbrighter, I was in contact with the US Embassy in Caracas, and I organized some seminars at my University, bringing to Venezuela some important scholars, among them, my friend Thomas C. Hilde, a philosopher at Maryland University, close friend of Herman Daly, and who introduced me inside the ideas of this benefactor of the Humanity. Of course, to talk about Daly and others like him, to have an independent criterion, sometimes is very dangerous inside a catholic and very conservative environment like my old university. Short story: I was declared “persona non grata” because I use to teach my students ideas like Daly’s or yours, or Mike Ferguson’s “Inside Job.”. After that, I returned to my first skill (screenwriter) and began to work at Circuito Gran Cine, as a consultant. At Gran Cine we distribute alternative movies, we organize different festivals (a mostra, not awarded competitions), with French movies, Spaniard movies, and independent American movies like this. We still have not decided the final agenda of 2012 American Independent Festival, but on behalf of Gran Cine, I would like to invite you and your movie to be in this screening. We have distributed on theatrical movies like King’s Speech, Ghost Writer, The Burning Plains, or Foubourg 39. Also, I work at the public service TV (Channel TVES), and this weekend we have a forum onto The Rio Summit 20 Years Later, and we would like to use some scenes of you movie to reinforce the dialogue between the economists and invited specialists that will we be with us discussing. How can we find seven (7) minutes of your film, to broadcast it as a large trailer, to debate and promote your movie using the Rio Summit? I can talk with my partner Bernardo Rotundo, to buy the theatrical rights of your movie, and use all the alternative circuits in Venezuela to screen it. Usually, our circuit includes cine clubs, alternative complexes, and street screening (Cine Móvil Popular). We can ask financial support from CENAC (our national cinematographic authority) because your movie qualifies easily as an “artistic and cultural interesting movie”, so according to our Ley de Cinematografía (Cinematographic Law) distributors are obligated to screen your movies at least two weeks on the cinemas. TV is a posterior alternative. We distributed Oliver’s Stone “Al Sur de la Frontera” (At The South of the Borderline) using this alternative model, and it was finally a small but good business for everybody. My idea is to call the attention: the President, the Communication Minister, Planning Minister, Central Bank Authorities, to convert this movie in an alternative success, to call you via skype, to interview you during the Rio Summit, to talk about your movie and the ideas you put inside, ideas we recognize as similar to ours. Very important to be seen by indians. we surely don't want a indian version of 2008 crisis. ICICI has already done it. Probably a few other institutions who lend without limits follow & there we'll have it. Personally 2008 taught me a lot about the importance of financial discipline.
