ELLI MEDEIROS

Elli Medeiros was born in Montevideo, Uruguay. Her mother was a very busy actress and Elli was regularly hired each time a child was needed in a play or a TV show. she got her first part, at age 4, as Madame Butterfly's son, in the production of Puccini's opera at the Opera de Montevideo. This was Orson Welles' first role, at the same age! Elli's father vanished from her life when she was five. After living for a few years in Buenos Aires, when she was fourteen, Elli moved to Paris with her mother & stepfather, and she had to learn French in a couple of months so she could attend high school. She tried several schools, including an art schoot, l'Ecole des Arts Appliques, but dropped out before getting a "baccalaureat" to start her first band, the Stinky Toys, the first French punk band, playing several London punk Festivals along with the Clash & the Sex Pistols. Elli appeared on the cover of Melody Maker & that convinced the until then extremely reluctant French record companies a deal with the band. After two albums, the Stinky Toys split and Elli and Stinky Toy Jacno then released several albums as the techno-pop duo Elli & Jacno. Their last was Les Nuits de la Pleine Lune (1984), the score to Eric Rohmer's movie. Elli then went solo, her music becoming more personal, more latin. She then had several hits in France, including Toi mon Toit, the mega hit of 1986, now a standard. After a break, Elli decided to go back to acting & school, & worked with Andreas Voutsinas, who was Lee Strasberg's assistant for twenty years and created the Paris Actor's Studio, le Théâtre des Cinquante. She also took classes with Madeleine Barchevska and Bob Mc Andrew. As an actress, Elli has worked with some of the most interesting french directors : Olivier Assayas, Philippe Garrel, Tonie Marshall, Marion Laine, Jean Henri Roger, Solveig Dommartin and others. In 2004, Elli spent the summer in Uruguay, reconnecting with her family, making new friends, like her musician friends from Cuareim 1080. She also got the first clues that led her to be able to reunite with her father, who had been living in Germany for over thirty years. During the summer of 2005, Elli went back to the studio and with her old friend, French mega pop star Etienne Daho as co-producer, recorded a new album. "Souleve-moi" was the first single to be released from the EM album (sep 2006 / V2)

Elli played the Nouveau Casino (Paris) in October 2006 with Mako, Vince Mounier, Salah Khaili and Kutch. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ In 2007 : ELLI'S ALBUM WAS RELEASED IN ARGENTINA, CHILE & URUGUAY BY RANDOM RECORDS ARGENTINA.... so we were "soulevés" by shows in Buenos Aires (Sep 1st 07), Montevideo (Sep 5th 07) and back in Paris, a big celebration on Oct 3rd, 07, at the Scène Bastille ..

... Elli is also going back into her acting career : she appeared as Catherine Deneuve's sister in French director GAËL MOREL's feature "APRÈS LUI" (released mai 2007 - Un autre regard - Cannes 2007) and spent several weeks in Buenos Aires (oct-nov 2007) shooting her first spanish speaking film : "LEONERA" by celebrated argentinian director PABLO TRAPERO... to be released worldwide....

2008 : "LEONERA" selection officielle CANNES 2008 !!! ...ELLI LIVE STARTING IN FRANCE IN NOVEMBER !!!!! ..NEW SONGS !!! ELLI IS WORKING ON AN ALBUM WITH PASCAL COMELADE THAT WILL BECOME A MOVIE BY OLIVIER ASSAYAS !!! THEN ELLI WILL GO TO THE RIO DE LA PLATA TO RECORD HER NEW ALBUM !!!
