Bio
Chris Lien is a recognized civic leader who gives his time and effort freely to the enhancement of his community and to the State of South Dakota. He has served as a team member, Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Ellsworth Task Force for the Rapid City Area Chamber of Commerce. In 2005, the Task Force worked with the community, Governor’s office and congressional delegation to successfully remove Ellsworth Air Force Base from the Base Realignment and Closure Committee’s closure list. Chris’ support of community and knowledge of the needs of South Dakotans is evident in his numerous roles within the Rapid City Area Chamber of Commerce, South Dakota Chamber of Commerce and his appointment as Member of the Worker’s Compensation Advisory Council. He also is a member of the Defense Orientation Conference Association and the Young President’s Association.
Chris Lien’s understanding of South Dakota economic and individual needs comes not only from his experience in business and community, but mostly from his family. The Lien name has been deep-rooted within South Dakota for five generations. Chris, along with his eight siblings, grew up in Rapid City, South Dakota. Chris received his High School diploma from Stevens High School, and then went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Montana State University and a Juris Doctorate from the University of South Dakota. Chris counts his greatest achievement as marrying his wife Julie and together raising their daughter, Annie.
Chris Lien announced his intentions to seek election as the South Dakota representative in the US House in 2008. Since his announcement Chris has been traveling all over the state meeting with voters and communities. Chris is excited about the campaign and the opportunity to further serve the people of South Dakota.
