Bio
Brett Mitchell, singer/songwriter, is not only one of the most talented & fresh writers to come out of Michigan but a charismatic front man, touring heavily with his talented & versatile back up band, the giant GHOST. Brett's voice is plainly addictive & the live show is sincere & wildly appealing.
Biography - 29 year old singer/songwriter and frontman, Brett Mitchell, born (too late) and raised in Midland, MI, taught himself drums at age 14 and was playing professionally and touring by age 17 with a variety of bands. He learned guitar as a necessity to aid in his songwriting and by 2005 his debut album, {Stereo}, was born, on which he played virtually all the instruments. In late 2007, Brett’s 2nd project, Small House, was released to rave reviews. Album number 3, Falling Apart at the Seams, is slated to release late fall 2009. Traveling with his phenomenal backing band, the giant GHOST, Brett provides vocals & electric/acoustic guitar and sometimes drums. Lead guitarist, Rick Manges from Midland, offers the wail factor while Mike Cramton, a Saginaw, MI native, (of Robert Bradley Blackwater Surprise fame) supplies tender vocal harmonies and the best in percussion support. Bill Hall, also from Saginaw, MI, adds his amazing bass intuition, completing the tight and appealing Brett Mitchell & the giant GHOST sound. Brett’s voice will capture you and not let go. The versatility of this band is the reason the schedule is always full. They play Brett's originals and the classics that inspired Brett to write. They can play a songwriter show, a lounge, a rockin' night at the bar or a festival and the set list is always fine tuned and perfect for the occasion, dancing encouraged. They have entertained in 9 states at such famous venues as The Ark and The Blind Pig in Ann Arbor, The Magic Stick in Detroit, The B.O.B., Founder’s and Hopcat in Grand Rapids, Mackinaw Island, Chesaning Showboat - opening and closing the 3 Doors Down show on 2nd stage, Navy Pier and Reggie's Music Joint in Chicago, Casinos Little River, Leelanau Sands and Turtle Creek in northern Michigan as well as for singer/songwriter night at the Bluebird Café in Nashville. In Indianapolis, Indiana they have entertained at Birdy's and Radio Radio, at Newport on the Levee, Newport, KY, in New Jersey at The Saint in Asbury Park and the Annex and the National Underground in NYC to name a few, sharing the show with such phenomenal artists as Moby, Eddie from Ohio, The Dirty Americans, Domestic Problems, Harper, Locksley, Pop Evil, the Ragbirds and many more.

"Brett Mitchell & the giant GHOST is a TIGHT BAND. Brett is really great with a crowd - PRO". Martin Atkins, author of Tour Smart and drummer for groups Public Image Ltd., Ministry, Pigface, and Killing Joke.
"I went to 101 Main and was knocked out by Brett, Mike, Bill, and Rick. They were tight and groovy and Brett's vocals were top notch - one of my favorite groups to see in this area. What a sweet night of music." William Jackson of Robert Bradley’s Blackwater Surprise
“You and your band are one of the best I have seen since I have been back from Los Angeles.” Jeff Amato, Independent Music Promotion Executive VIS*ABILITY
“Mitchell can swing sweet and soft but he can rock yer socks off, too! And what a colorful musical landscape Brett creates on this disc (Small House). He's the post-modern Georgia O'Keeffe of rock n' roll, painting his songs with such vibrancy and erotic tension while still evoking a quiet beauty in the music. This is an artist in transition, maturing and reaching his enormous potential while still achieving balance and centeredness.” Bo White
"Brett Mitchell, the Midland-based singer-songwriter recently released his "Small House" album, chock full of solidly written, expertly produced tunes that span rock, pop and folk. I look at him as kind of a rootsy version of Marshall Crenshaw, a lot of pop hooks and very well written, very well produced stuff ...great witty lyrics, by the way, on the clever opening track, Born Too Late, definitely worth the listen. New Disease, as well as Last Chance, (are) two really good songs, very different and at the same time New Disease has a nice rock feel to it, kind of a love song, in a way...he’s definitely an up and comer!...I've described Brett Mitchell as one of Michigan's most promising singer-songwriters, a sincere guy who adroitly incorporates pop and rock elements from the past into impressive, rootsy, catchy, sometimes folksy songs. The lead track from his latest album, "Small House," is appropriately dubbed "Born Too Late," which sort of sums up his musical approach." John Sinkevics, The Grand Rapids Press
"The Midland singer-songwriter, Brett Mitchell, returns with a gorgeously produced CD that rocks impressively on "Born Too Late," "New Disease" and "Last Chance," and turns tender and warm on "Friend" and "Good Intentions." West Michigan Artists
"Brett Mitchell croons his songs, even under pop-rock and country circumstances. His organic arrangements forego the bombastic, heavily-produced sound and focus on the "musicians in a studio" approach, even though a lot of the instruments were played by him on multiple tracks. Accessing different sounds and musical styles, he does play well with the few others on the album, and though not particularly wordy in his lyrics, gets across everything he needs to. Engineered by Andy Reed and mastered by GBP Studios in Lansing, the recording is clear and sweet, relaying the well written music without drowning it in experimentation or over-polishing." Ryan Cunningham, Grand Rapids Recoil Magazine
"Brett Mitchell combines a vintage Rockabilly sound with a dash of Pop alla 80's Rick Springfield." IndiMusic TV New York
FANS LOVE BRETT MITCHELL...YOU WILL, TOO! Review from CD BABY of Brett's debut solo album {Stereo}: With passion and talent, Mitchell is an emerging star. As a lover of acoustic music and singer songwriters, I was intrigued to check out Brett Mitchell. At a recent show, he blew me away with his warm stage presence, his quality of voice and depth of lyrics. And while he gives amazing intimate live performances, his album is no disappointment. The same raw talent and soul translates onto the LP. With stand out tracks such as the cathy pop driven Stereo and Young Summer to the gritty soulful ballad Sad Songs and Snow, it's only a matter of time before Brett is heard on mainstream radio. The album is reminiscent of the early acoustic albums of John Mayer's Inside Wants Out, Howie Day's Australia and Matt Nathanson's Ernst, proving that Mitchell can play with the big boys and is a rare standout artist in the large pool of singer/songwriters.
