More details about BLOWBACK
Bio
BLOWBACK the band formed in the wake of the elections of 2000. We were friends first and foremost, and also former members of the Colombian Neckties (Charleston SC) and Rugburn (Washington DC). Now, we do most of our work cross-country, but continue to use DC as a home base.
We don't tour the country. BLOWBACK often gets together at political protests or rallies, and we have performed for unsuspecting crowds of 10,000 and more at numerous DC protests, including setting up shop on Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the Dept. of Justice & FBI buildings, and a generator-powered performance in Farragut Square during a city-wide shutdown. BLOWBACK has organized and delivered a number of petition drives to Capitol Hill, including grassroots actions to bring Pinochet to justice and repeal the Patriot Act.
Track III, BLOWBACK's first album, was recorded during the week of September 11, 2001 at Candy Ear Studios in New York City. A routine demo session quickly grew into a 15 song set, spurred on by the events unfolding at the time.
In 2004, BLOWBACK recorded Lies in a basement studio in DC. The EP includes "No Nos Moveran (We Shall Not Be Moved)", a reworking of the traditional labor song that is now featured in the National Civil Rights Museum, and "Fuck War", debuted at an anti-globalization rally at the Washington Monument, which in a curious turn of events was broadcast by C-SPAN, unedited.
BLOWBACK has recorded new music with DC icon Don Zientara at Inner Ear Studios, to be released soon.
