hey- i got an email abt this movie today, which is what brings me here. ive been reading some of your emails, and before i answer the ones that i know how to answer, lemme say this first-- i was fhere for those 5 days in nov/dec 99, and it was horrible. the movie actually is ok (i was expecting it to suck cuz it had famous people in it, lol, but they used REAL footage, and gave us (the protesters) a good rap- made us look good)
now then-- to carlosM: i just bought this movie at blockbuster, and it says across the top ''blockbuster exclusive,'' so im guessing you can rent in at bb?
to johnk226: there were a lot of documentaries about 99 shown in seattle, and this movie WAS shown in seattle. however, it wasn't very popular. i dont live in seattle anymore, but i have lots of friends there, and there was a lot of ''anti-hollywood'' sentiment.
before i end, i'll say this-- the intro to the movie was excellent. many people are STILL unaware of the wto and the deleterious impact that it has on all of us. however... one part that SUCKED-- the part of the movie where they call out to everyone in jail that they/we were *successful* in stopping the wto meetings....
that did NOT happen. it was unrealistic, and the lesson of the movie wasn't ''if you try, you'll win,'' the lesson of the movie is about for something you believe in, even if there are consequences (also, there was a real moral lesson in the loss of charlize theron's pregnancy-- our actions, no matter how noble, DO affect many people, and we must be aware. reminds me of some of the talk around DC [where i live now] about protesters and stuff-- like, people say they're gonna shut the city down, but some of us work here and live here. stuff is VERY hard for us now!)
anyway, that's all!
I think that Battle in Seattle is more than about just going to watch a film. It is about understanding the causes of making people more poorer while some governors and companies get richer without concerns about taking a nation to an economical crisis until they see the consequences. If you are interested in making aware your community it will be a good idea to ask your friends to joing you in organizing small meetings to watch the film and speak about your community concerns, discussing social, cultural and economical issues. And Thank you for your contribution in making a better society... or society won't stop for being just a garden were we citizens grow as vegetables sprouts!
i'v been waiting for this movie for so long- i decided to watch online- i'd have gone to the cinema, but i dont see the need now.
Whats the deal anyway with opening a movie at a city? It seems easy for me but there's probably some complex stuff.
I'm in Canada. I watched Battle in Seattle online a few days ago. I'm hoping it comes to the province of Ontario so I can see it in the theatre, but I'm pretty sure that it won't be shown.
see this movie because world trade will always exist and as difficult subject it is.. we could learn something. sure opens conversations..and good actors.
