Cookin’ For Kids
The Gulf Coast Kid’s House will host the first annual Cookin’ For Kids Bar-B-Que Cook Off on November 21, 2009, from 11 am .to 3 pm at Bayview Park in downtown Pensacola. Monies raised from Cookin’ for Kids will benefit abused children in Escambia County through the services provided by Gulf Coast Kid’s House. Cookin’ for Kids offers professional, amateur and area restaurants the opportunity to showcase their best barbecue recipes in a fun, family-friendly environment.

The Cookin’ for Kids Bar-B-Que Cook Off is accepting entries for the amateur competition, professional competition and the commercial competitor. Amateurs and professionals may enter in three categories – pork ribs, half chicken or brisket. All competitors will compete for awards from a judging panel and must provide samples to attendees with a paid wrist band. Participant entry forms may be found at www.cookinforkids.org.

The Cookin’ for Kids Bar-B-Que Cook Off is also searching for volunteers and sponsors for this first year event which will feature a variety of family activities, live music, games and fun.

The Gulf Coast Kid’s House facilitates the investigation, prosecution, and treatment of child abuse and neglect, and promotes child abuse prevention awareness through community education. In 2008, Gulf Coast Kid’s House handled over 1,000 new cases and provided more than 10,000 services to child abuse victims and family members. Escambia County has the highest number of substantiated child abuse cases, per capita, in the state of Florida, and services are provided free of charge, saving the tax payer up to $1,000 per processed case. Gulf Coast Kid’s House does not receive Federal or State funding, and meets their annual budget through fundraising, community and corporate sponsorships, donations and grant applications.
