Description
Orangeburg, NY. Ron Soodalter, co-author of “The Slave Next Door” Human Trafficking and Slavery in America Today” will be a guest speaker of the Rockland Graduate Campus of Long Island University on Thursday, November 19 at 5:00 p.m. The event is being hosted by the School Counseling and Mental Health Honor Society of the Rockland Campus.
The Slave Next Door" is the definitive work for this recently "hot" social issue.
Meticulously researched and compelling, it documents not only the problem of human trafficking but a well thought out plan of action for government, law enforcement and non-government organizations. The book also spells out ways for ordinary citizens to do right by their fellow human beings. It offers a combination of case studies, interviews with government officials, trafficking activists, survivors of trafficking, and in some cases, the actual traffickers.
In his presentation, Mr. Soodalter will bring clarity and comprehension to this shocking but vital issue. Through gripping human stories of victims who trusted their dreams to the wrong people, the audience will see the many faces of slavery in the United States, as well as learning what is – and is not – being done on the federal, state, and local levels to free and support the victims, and to apprehend and punish the bad guys.
Soodalter, a highly experienced lecturer, teacher and historian, is known for his excellent study of the nineteenth century slave trade, Hanging Captain Gordon: The Life and Trial of an American Slave Trader the story of the only man in our history to be executed for this horrific crime.
His presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer period, and book signing.
The free presentation begins at 5 p.m. at the Rockland Graduate Campus, which is located at 70 Route 340, Orangeburg, NY. For further information about the presentation, please call Dr. Thomas Nardi at 845-359-7200 Ext. 5429.
