Orpheum Theater

The Orpheum Theater was built in 1895 and originally an ordinary playhouse called the Creighton Theater before being converted to a vaudeville theater called The Creighton Orpheum in 1906. The theater was rebuilt in 1927 and began to schedule movies in the early 40s due to the steady decline of vaudeville. However, the movie theater also experienced a decline and closed in 1971 before being bought by Omaha's performing arts groups a year later and renovated into a first class performing arts theater. The Orpheum has received a few more renovations since then, transforming the theater into the magnificent venue that exists today.
