Description
Greetings, programs. I have recently come across a very low resolution trailer for TR2N. The sequel to the 1982 Disney classic, Tron. Actually, it's not really a trailer, it's more of a private teaser. It was shown in high res at ComicCon 2008. (That's a big comic book convention they have every year...but apparently, they talk about more than just comics.) The teaser has leaked onto the internet and here we have it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPGWYAUF3v4 Plot: After being transported into the surreal landscape of a mainframe computer to destroy an intruder, a programmer finds himself allied with the leader of a rebellion against a corrupt cyber-entity. If you're interested, or if you think the animation looks lame, check out some of the work the director has done. The cellphone video TR2N footage is nothing compared to what they saw live. Here is the quality of animation the director typically produces: http://www.josephkosinski.com/projects/movs/ispec.html http://www.josephkosinski.com/projects/movs/les_jumelles.html http://www.josephkosinski.com/projects/movs/logo.html If those links don't work, just go to http://www.josephkosinski.com and view his work. If you're as critical as I am, you may ask yourself how these commercials, or whatever they're called, qualify one to handle a project such as a Tron sequel. Well, you should consider that the original Tron was Steven Lisberger's first feature film. The artistic inspiration for Tron was a simple logo/intro that Lisberger used to open a cartoon that he directed. Here is the intro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8JwqOSD2EU That intro demonstrates an illumination technique that Lisberger would later use to illuminate the costumes in Tron. (The logo was used in the film Animalympics which was released in 1980. That same year, Hazel O'Connor' appeared in a similar costume...but that was not an animation technique, it was just a costume. She actually looked quite similar to a Tron character and Tron didn't come out for another two years. It could have been a case of someone replicating some early Tron artwork, but I really don't know. Here is that video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15Ij9Y--dIQ Was everybody on drugs back then?) So considering Lisberger's limited pre-Tron work, Kosinski's work is plenty proof of his ability to direct TR2N.
