The Oakland Ballet Company presents Carlos Carvajal's Nutcracker accompanied by live music from the Oakland East Bay Symphony.
This beloved holiday tradition has a spectacular growing tree, a spirited party, battle scenes, and a trip through the snow forest and the land of the sweets. The San Francisco Chronicle describes Carvajal's Nutcracker as a "time-tested production, featuring glittering costumes and a live orchestra."
Carvajal, a world renowned choreographer, is celebrating the 15th anniversary of his Nutcracker and will make a special guest appearance as Drosselmeyer on December 24. The Saturday and Sunday matinees will be followed by a Sweet Dreams party, which will feature light refreshments and beloved Nutcracker characters posing for pictures and signing autographs. Separate tickets are required.
The Oakland Ballet will once again donate 2,000 tickets to Oakland public schools and make 1,500 tickets available to underserved families. Community outreach is a tradition the company has continued with the generosity of Chevron, Target, Clorox and other donors. Nicole Levine, executive director of the Oakland Ballet says, "In these challenging economic times the Oakland Ballet welcomes audience members and donors to join us in keeping one of Oakland's jewels inspiring and accessible for all."
