Description:
The annual Jazz Festival is the highlight of the year for jazz on campus at Illinois State University. The festival features two evening showings of a collaborative performance by ISU Jazz Ensembles with a renowned guest artist. Past guest artists have included Eric Marienthal, John Fedchock, Byron Stripling, Denis DiBlasio, Benny Golson, Bobby Shew, John Scofield, Branford Marsalis, Count Basie, and Maynard Ferguson.
The 2010 guest artist will be trumpet virtuoso Marvin Stamm whose illustrious career includes work with the bands of Stan Kenton, Woody Herman, Thad Jones/Mel Lewis, Duke Pearson, Frank Sinatra, Benny Goodman and more. In addition to being an outstanding jazz soloist, Stamm has been a first call studio musician in New York and is very active internationally as a music educator. Marvin will give masterclasses and perform as the featured soloist on both 8:00pm concerts during the 2010 festival, March 19 and 20.
