Music and Lyrics by Mark Hollman
Book and Lyrics by Greg Kotis
This hilarious musical satire is set in a (not too distant) future, in which water is scarce and people are forced to use expensive pay toilets to do all of their daily business! An alliance of corrupt politicians, along with the corporate titan who owns the toilets, have passed strict laws outlawing public urination, and anyone foolish enough to violate these laws is carted off to “Urinetown,” a mysterious place that no one knows anything about and everyone fears. Tired of the injustice, a young crusader leads the people in a revolt to restore their dignity...and he even finds love along the way! “Hilarious...sharp and smart!” (Bruce Weber, The New York Times). Winner of 2001 Tony Awards for Best Book and Score. Directed by Brendan Hoyle.
