Description
Lehman College Art Gallery emphasizes contemporary art in its large, main exhibition space and smaller graphics gallery. Shows range from one-artist shows by major innovators-such as Romare Bearden, Christo and Robert Wilson-to surveys honoring established and emerging Bronx artists. Thematic exhibitions have included Bits and Pieces: The Collage Impulse; The City: Contemporary Views of the Built Environment; Images of Time and Place: Contemporary Views of Landscape; and Fact, Fiction, and Truth: Contemporary Portraits.
The gallery also offers education programs that engage thousands of students each year. There are regular lectures, film and video screenings, and talks by prominent artists. The gallery is located in the Fine Arts Building on the Lehman College campus. The structure was designed by the renowned architect Marcel Breuer, who also created the Whitney Museum of Art.
