Description
The Howard Williams Jazz Orchestra has been a staple of the Garage line-up for almost ten years. Williams and his 17 piece big band play every monday night for three hours, and have turned Garage into the busiest Monday night venue in the city.

Howard Williams is well known in the musical community, and has been in the scene for decades. He was active in the loft scene in the 50's and 60's, and recorded with such greats as Wilbur Harden, John Coltrane, Curtis Fuller, and Art Taylor. He work at Birdland on Broadway with Shorty Baker nad George Kelly. Later in the 60's Williams had a popular trio with Harry Leahy.
A talented arranger and composer, Williams is also a masterful pianist. He worked with the big bands of Woody Herman, Charlie Barnet, Hal McIntyre, and too many others to mention.
The Howard Williams Jazz Orchestra plays Howard's own arrangements and compositions, literally blowing guests out of their seats into standing ovations. Many of the members of his band have been playing with the group for the 10 years it has been at Garage. Such well-known artists as Lou Caputo and Virginia Mayhew represent the talent of the entire ensemble - consumate professionals.

Enjoy the Big Band sounds of the Howard Williams Jazz Orchestra. Vocalist Vicki Doney, who has soloed for both the opening ceremonies of the Olympic Games and for Pope John Paul II, sings for many of the numbers.

Howard Williams, one of the most experienced and well-known big band leaders in NYC has assembled a hot group of young jazz newcomers, retired legends, and everything in between into one of the longest lasting big bands in New York City history. Don't miss the opportunity to be a part of it!!!

More about Garage Restaurant
Garage Restaurant
The building was established in the 1920's as an automobile garage. The Garage logo is derived from the original mosaic embedded in the front of the building. In the 1940's and 50's, the space was called The Nut Club, a cabaret that was a forerunner of the comedy clubs of today, with entertainers such as Jackie Gleason performing on stage. From 1969 to the early 1990's the Circle Repertory Company, an off-Broadway theater troupe, used the space as their theater (featuring early performances by actors Danny Aiello, Alec Baldwin, William Hurt and Demi Moore). On June 14, 1995, Garage opened to rave reviews.
