Event details: Sculpture that Works
Description
Paul Manship, Hunt Diederich and Carl Jennewein, as well as Rene Chambellan and Oronzio Maldarelli (represented by panels from the RKO Roxy Theater at Rockefeller Center) are among the early 20th Century sculptors included in this exhibition. Post-War and Contemporary artists will include Harry Bertoia, George Rickey, Wendell Castle, Claude Lalanne and Albert Paley. Paley will be represented with six models for recent projects -shown for the first time, together with working and presentation drawings and final installation photographs.
The exhibition promotes the continuing dialogue about design, technique, and creative instinct whether the artist intended the object to used or simply admired.

Operating from a townhouse on the Upper East Side, the gallery was initially envisioned to be a private showroom with a staff of two, with one or two public exhibitions a year. In 1997, the Gerald Peters Gallery further expanded its presence in New York with the purchase of the townhouse at 24 East 78th Street. This 5-story building incorporates two floors of exhibition space, several private viewing rooms, a library, storage facilities and offices. With a staff of 10, including 5 directors, an art registrar and a professional art handler, the gallery is able to produce several exhibtions a year, publish catalogues and deal in a wide range of American art (including the Hudson River School, American Impressionists and the American Modernists). Besides American paintings, drawings and sculpture, the gallery also specializes in modern European masters. Since the formal opening of the townhouse, the Gerald Peters Gallery has hosted several major exhibitions including those focusing in the works of Edward Potthast, Leon Kroll, and Albert Bierstadt.
