Description
Originally from Paola, Kansas, Ryan Anselmi now resides in New York City working as a free lance artist and pursuing an M.D in Music Education/Performance.
He started taking lesson's from Charles Kessinger at the age of 12 and by the age of 15 he was working professionally with the Twin Rivers Jazz Band from Osawatomie, Kansas. Thanks to The Twin Rivers Jazz Band Ryan was able to meet and play with people like David Basse & The City Light Orchestra, Organist Everatt Devan and Jay McShann. Ryan later moved to Wichita, Kansas where he attended Wichita State University studying under Tom Fowler, Craig Owens, Dr. Thompson, Mark Foley, & J.C. Combs. During his time in Wichita he played with a number of great musicians and ensembles. Some of these include: The Hillside Blues Quartet,The Masuda Quartet, The Source, Chet Aikens Quartet, Roberto Bernardinello & Marco Porcu, Kurt Aiken Quartet, The Tom Fowler Big Band, The Air Capitol Big Band, Roger Lewis's "Joy Ride", Matt Walsh's Blues Band, Criag Owens & the Bodo Ensemble, Colassal, The Sean Fanning Quartet, Soul Injection, Sterling Gray, Lotus, many Wichita State University Ensembles, The Coaster's and opening up for Maynard Ferguson and Kenny Rogers. Ryan was inspired to apply to The New School's Jazz And Contemporary Music Program in New York City. After doing so he was awarded a scholarship to the program and moved to New York City in August of 2006.
Now Since his arrival he has rubbed elbows and worked with the likes of Pharoah Sanders, Chico Hamilton, Reggie Workman, Cecil Bridgewater, Matt Wilson, Jeff Lederer, Junior Mance, Tim Price, Brian Lynch and many others. Along with booking his own Quartet Ryan is teaching in various settings. He is also exploring his own writing style for both small and LARGE Ensembles. Garage Restaurant
The building was established in the 1920's as an automobile garage. The Garage logo is derived from the original mosaic embedded in the front of the building. In the 1940's and 50's, the space was called The Nut Club, a cabaret that was a forerunner of the comedy clubs of today, with entertainers such as Jackie Gleason performing on stage. From 1969 to the early 1990's the Circle Repertory Company, an off-Broadway theater troupe, used the space as their theater (featuring early performances by actors Danny Aiello, Alec Baldwin, William Hurt and Demi Moore). On June 14, 1995, Garage opened to rave reviews.
