Event details: Rosa Passos Quintet - Jazz at Lincoln Center
Description
Who/What:
Known in her native Brazil as the "feminine João Gilberto,” singer/songwriter and guitarist Rosa Passos performs in The Allen Room for the first time. She celebrates the 50th anniversary of bossa nova, making the classic bossa nova tunes sound new again. The quintet consists of Rosa Passos (guitar/vocals), Helio Alves (piano), Paulo Paulelli (bass), Celso de Almeida (drums) and Rodrigo Ursaia (saxophones, flute).
When:
May 23-24, 2008, 7:30pm & 9:30pm
Where:
The Allen Room, Frederick P. Rose Hall, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center, on Broadway at 60th St., New York City.
Why:
Inspired by João Gilberto and Antonio Carlos Jobim - the godfathers of bossa nova – Rosa Passos switched from piano to guitar and began writing her own material as a teenager. As a Brazilian singer and songwriter, she is known for keeping Brazilian jazz alive with all of its mystery, rhythm, and romance intact. Fans all over the world know her to be loyal to her Afro-Brazilian heritage, maintaining the soulful cool of bossa nova without commercial compromise.

Tickets at $60 are available at the Jazz at Lincoln Center Box Office on Broadway at 60th St., by calling CenterCharge at 212.721.6500 or via www.jalc.org. Schedule subject to change.
