Description
FEATURING:
Ronny Jordan, guitar
Other musicians, TBA

The Grammy nominated, international jazz star and N-Coded Music recording artist Ronny Jordan is universally acknowledged as "The King of Acid Jazz" and a major jazz pioneer. With his debut seminal release "The Antidote" (92), Ronny is largely credited as the man who bought the guitar back to prominence in the contemporary jazz radio format that was previously dominated by the likes of Kenny G and his many other sax contemporaries. In a recent internet jazz poll of the (top) twenty most influential jazz musicians of the 20th Century, Ronny was no 13(!)

Ronny signed his first record ideal with Universal Island in July 1991, and started work on his debut release, the Antidote. The rest as they say, is history. Ronny "crossed over" instantly with his first release, the first ever international jazz guitar pop chart hit, Miles Davis's "So What" which was completed on the same night Miles Davis passed away."The Antidote" became a global smash not just because of "So What" -which became the definitive Acid Jazz tune - but also because of his signature tune "After Hours" - the first and most important smooth jazz guitar classic which introduced Ronny to the US market.

Since the seminal release of "The Antidote", Ronny has recorded five more albums released by Universal Island, Blue Note Records and N-Coded Music, each time solidifying his reputation and legendary status with each release. In addition, Ronny has won numerous awards over the years, most notably the Gibson Guitar Best Jazz Guitarist of the year (2000), the MOBO Best Jazz Act Award (2000). Ronny was also nominated for a Grammy for Best Contemporary Jazz Album (A Brighter Day) in 2001.

Ronny's style has often been described as provocative, unique, broad and uncompromising, covering a very broad base such as Acid Jazz, Smooth Jazz, Smooth Acid Bop, Soul Jazz, Funk, Soul, Jazz Hip-Hop, Gospel, Urban, World and more. In Contemporary Jazz, Ronny Jordan is a "Everyman", and sure to go down in history as one of the most gifted and talented musicians of his generation.

More about Blue Note
Blue Note
Regarding the Jazz scene in New York City, one of the Blue Note s managers matter of factly told us This is it. Indeed, the Blue Note is arguably the world s most popular jazz club. Although the club only opened their doors in the early 80 s, it has the feel of a longtime veteran in the New York Jazz scene. Once you get over the commercial feel of the joint, including its gold plaque embedded tables, mediocre meals named after jazz songs, and overpriced gift shop, the Blue Note is truly among the best of its kind. Expect to see world renowned talent on any given day except for Mondays, which is reserved for exceptional local talent. Show times are 9 00 and 11 30 during the week and additional Sunday matinees at 1 00 PM and 3 30 PM. Check the schedule link for show details.
