Event details: Rick Stone
Description
Guitarist Rick Stone leads his trio in an evening of jazz standards and originals, Friday, December 18th, at the Garage Restaurant, 99 7th Avenue South (at Grove Street), New York, NY. No Cover, No Minimum. For information and reservations Call 212-645-0600. Robert Silverstein of 20th Century Guitar calls Rick Stone "One of the finest straight-ahead guitarists on the current NYC jazz scene." From fresh interpretations of jazz standards, to lyrically evocative originals, New York City based guitarist Rick Stone is an artist with a clear musical vision. His fluid, full-bodied sound pays homage to the great jazz guitar masters of the past while maintaining a personal style with a contemporary edge. Jim Carlton writes in Just Jazz Guitar âHis lyrical lines and imaginative ideas on a mix of originals and hip standards reflect his maturity as an interpreter of great tunes and his mastery as an artistically adept player. His tone is bright and crisp, some would say traditional, and his ideas are fresh."
More about Garage Restaurant
Garage Restaurant
The building was established in the 1920's as an automobile garage. The Garage logo is derived from the original mosaic embedded in the front of the building. In the 1940's and 50's, the space was called The Nut Club, a cabaret that was a forerunner of the comedy clubs of today, with entertainers such as Jackie Gleason performing on stage. From 1969 to the early 1990's the Circle Repertory Company, an off-Broadway theater troupe, used the space as their theater (featuring early performances by actors Danny Aiello, Alec Baldwin, William Hurt and Demi Moore). On June 14, 1995, Garage opened to rave reviews.Links
