Description
North America's biggest celebration of Korean cinema will return for an eighth year as the 2008 New York Korean Film Festival wows audiences from August 22 to 31 at Cinema Village in Manhattan and BAMcinématek in Brooklyn. Festival-goers will be thrilled by a one-of-a-kind line-up of Korea's cutting edge action, sci-fi, drama and comedy hits. A full schedule of screenings and events is available at http://www.koreanfilmfestival.org/.

Since 2001, the New York Korean Film Festival has been the premiere venue for North American debuts of Korean blockbuster, first-run and classic films unavailable before on the big screen to New York's cinephiles.

The New York Korean Film Festival's opening VIP reception will be held at the newly opened The Times Center on August 21 at 6:00 PM. The VIP reception will be attended by Yoo Ji-tae, star of Korean Wave classic Old Boy as well as the new film Hwang Jin-Yi, a sumptuously filmed costume drama of passion pitted against Korea's social norms, that will make its New York premiere immediately following the VIP reception at 8:00 PM. The screening of Hwang Jin-Yi will be followed by a Q&A with Yoo Ji-tae and director Chang Youn-hyun. In addition, Jeon Soo-il, director of With a Girl of Black Soil, will be our guest director and panel discussion participant. Festival goers and the general public are also invited to a celebration at the Hiro Ballroom in Chelsea on August 22 at 10:00 PM.

The 14 films on the festival schedule, all shown in the original Korean with English subtitles, represent many of Korea's top box-office hits from last year. Fans of action and suspense will be especially pleased to view the explosive Spare (starring Jung Woo, Lim Jun-il and Koga Mitsuki) and the chillingly elegant Epitaph (Kim Tae-woo, Kim Bo-kyung and Jin Goo). Be sure not to miss it! http://www.koreanfilmfestival.org/.
