Tourists join the crowds to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving day parade float through Manhattan. “New Yorkers” attend the Macy’s Balloon Inflation party the night before! A tradition since 1927, the giant character balloons are slowly blown up and brought to life in the streets around the American Museum of Natural History. The enormous balloons take up two full city blocks. Nets and sandbags are used to keep the balloons from escaping during the night. WHERE TO MEET: We will meet on the corner of 79th and Central Park West (south side) at 5 PM. The party lasts until 8 PM. I will send my phone# the day before in case you arrive later than 5. BY SUBWAY: Take the B or C to 81st Street or the 1 train to 79th Street and Broadway. BY BUS: The M79, M7, M10, M11, M86, and M104 buses all have stops near the museum.
